Kakching, September 07 2025:
The United Youth Progressive Organisation (UNYPO), Kakching, has urged the authorities to defer any inauguration or formal opening of the newly constructed Bailey Bride over Sengmai Turel, which connects Kakching Wairi and Chumnang.
Romesh highlighted that the bridge has already become a vital lifeline for residents, including students of Padma Ratna English School, Kha Manipur College, and ITI Kakching.
However, he warned that safety risks remain, as some parts of the construction were left unfinished and several sections lacked proper tightening of screws, raising fears of accidents.

He further pointed out that the most accident-prone area lies at the sharp turning near Chumnang side, just after crossing the bridge.
He urged authorities to widen the road on both sides and install protective railings along the riverbank to prevent mishaps.
"If any untoward incident happens, who will take the responsibility?" Naorem questioned, pressing for urgent intervention.
He therefore called on the local MLA and concerned authorities to promptly address the matter and ensure the safety of the people before declaring the bridge open for public use.
