Study circle on "Literature, Library, and Community" held

Imphal, December 06 2025:
The Central Library, Manipur University (MU), and Manipur University Alumni Association (MUAA) jointly conducted a Study Circle on "Literature, Library, and Community" at the Conference Hall of the Library today.
As per a release issued by MUAA, the study circle was chaired by Prof Charoibam Ibohal Singh, University Librarian (i/c), MU and vice president of MUAA.
Prof Nirmal Kumar Swain, Head, Library and Information Science, MDU, Rohtak, Haryana, and Dr Tamishra.
Swain, Associate Professor.
Department of English and Modem European Languages, Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan also attended the programme as invited speakers.
The programme began with an introduction by Dr Dalip Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information, MU followed by a welcome & keynote address by Dr N Amulkumar, Head of DVSSD, MU.
In his address, Prof Charoibam Ibohal appraised the participants of the significant role of the library to serve the readership community and meet their complex needs through varied forms of literature.
Highlighting the declining trend in reading habits among youths, Prof Nirmal Kumar said that India is the third country in the world, next to the USA and the UK, in producing literature written in English, and many such publications are lying unused in different libraries.
He also emphasized the importance of reading in today's life, suggesting simple guidelines to cultivate the habit of reading Dr Tamishra Swain also dwelt on the folk tales of Manipur and legendary writings, reflecting the social dynamics.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr N Amulkumar.
