The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Kangpokpi, organised a one-day awareness programme on child protection and distributed relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Makhan Village Relief Camp in Saitu Gamphazol on Monday.
The programme aimed to create awareness among camp inmates on child protection and emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety, care, development and well-being of children living in vulnerable circumstances.
Speaking during the programme, the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Kangpokpi, highlighted key child protection issues, including child rights, prevention of abuse, neglect and exploitation, and the need to provide a safe and nurturing environment for every child.

As part of the programme, individual counselling sessions were conducted with camp inmates to assess the needs of children and spread awareness about the Sponsorship Programme under the Mission Vatsalya Scheme.
Parents and guardians were informed about the eligibility criteria, and those meeting the prescribed norms were encouraged to enrol their children to avail financial assistance and support for education, nutrition and overall development.
To provide immediate assistance to displaced families, DCPU Kangpokpi also distributed essential relief materials, including eggs, sugar, snacks, sanitary pads, stationery items and other basic necessities.
The initiative was well received by the camp residents and reflected the department's continued commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children while extending humanitarian support to families affected by displacement.
