Imphal, August 05 2026:
All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has written to the Vice Chancellor in-charge Manipur University highlighting several demands today.
In the representation it submitted today, ANSAM said the VC shall immediately operationalise ST/SC cells, ensuring strict implementation of reservation policies, monitoring of progress and welfare of ST/SC students and staff, and making it serve as a functional grievance redressal mechanism.
The statutory reservation framework for Manipur University: 31% for ST, 2% for SC, and 17% for OBC must be upheld in letter and spirit, it said.
ANSAM further urged the VC to revisit the CUET-only admission model for PG programmes citing law and order constraints, and stating that CUET examination centres are unavailable in most tribal-dominated districts.
The university must institute a separate, in-State entrance test for Master's programmes particularly for tribal candidates as special measures.
While the alternative admission mechanism is pursued, the university must simultaneously take up the matter with the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the University Grants Commission for establishment of CUET examination centres in major hill districts of Manipur, ANSAM added.
