PET for police recruitment to be video recorded

Imphal, January 05 2013 : Considering the gravity of the situation and the cases where many security personnel have been found involved in crimes, thus tarnishing the image of Manipur Police, the State Government would henceforth conduct video recording of the physical efficiency test (PET) of any recruitment process in the State police, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, has disclosed.

Talking to media persons at the office of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at BT Road here today, Gaikhangam said that integrity test would also be conducted for all the candidates who have cleared the written test, viva voce and medical test for recruitment to State forces.

There would also be a system where the candidates would be verified whether they are related to any UG group or not before giving away the offer forms to them, Gaikhangam said, and appealed to all the intending candidates not to bribe anyone for getting selected in the recruitment process.

While admitting that there have been various loopholes in the recruitment process in the past, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that the State Government is trying its level best to rectify all these mistakes and make the State police force one of the best in the country.

Appealing to the general public to feed the government with good suggestions, Gaikhangam encouraged the public to inform any case of crime against women or any violent incident directly to the Chief Minister or to him without any hesitation.

Reacting to the allegation that the State Government has remained silent over the Chandel molestation case after convening an all political party meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam asserted that there is no such thing call 'remaining silent' over the resolution adopted in the all political party meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on December 25 .

The process for taking up necessary actions may have been a bit delayed due to the various issues confronting the State.

Nonetheless, the State Government has decided to meet the Central leaders on January 16 .

All the leaders of the different political parties have also been informed about the decision.

The case of abduction for ransom and subsequent killing of Shankarlal Swamy, the manager of Max Enterprises has been handed over to CBI to ensure that stringent legal actions could be initiated against the two IRB personnel and other two persons who were involved in it, Gaikhangam observed.

The CBI would also probe into possible involvement of any other UG groups were in the case and whether there have been any cases of infiltration of UG cadres in the state police forces, he disclosed, adding that all the related documents in connection with the arrest of the involved persons would be handed over to CBI shortly.

Gaikhangam maintained that the case of Shankarlal has opened the eyes of the State Government.

The involved persons would not only be suspended or dismissed from services, but they would also be given the highest form of punishment that should be given to any criminal.

Gaikhangam said that the State Government is discussing whether IRB personnel should be deployed inside Kangla fort further or not.

It is also planning to prohibit all VIP vehicles from entering inside the Kangla except the vehicle of the Chief Minister.

The State Government would never, under any circumstance, spare those involved in killing of Laishram Ibohalbi allegedly by bandh supporters at Finch Corner in Ukhrul, he assured.
