Imphal, December 04, 2008:
Picking flaws in the existing education system, MLA of Khurai A/C Dr Ng Bijoy stressed on constant monitoring to find out whether the students are being taught properly by the teachers in the Government schools.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a free remedial coaching for students of class X to XII in Government schools at Ananda Singh Higher Secondary here today, Dr Bijoy said the existing education system in Manipur is full of loopholes.
Organising remedial coaching instead of special coaching appears to be an attempt to rectify the mistakes of the Government.
He wished that necessary remedial measures should be taken up in time to rectify the defects in the existing education system which has brought down the moral of the teachers, thereby giving a serious impact on the method of imparting education to the students in the Govt schools.
Private tuition and coaching classes seem to have become an essential part of the education today as there is no scope for boosting the moral of the teachers through incentives, he noted.
Questioning under what type of policy so many private schools have been come up in the State, Dr Bijoy asserted that people have started losing faith on the existing education system as the Government has been carrying out its activities in violation of the Education Code 1992 instead of respecting it.
He also maintained that the prospect of job would be curtailed after 10 years with introduction of Meetei Mayek and this may act as a stumbling block in the development of education in the State.
ZEO Zone-II Kh Amuba who also spoke at the occasion explained that remedial coaching is being organised with the main objective of improving the pass percentage and mark score of the students in Government schools which are at present abysmally low in comparison to students of private schools.
The remedial coaching is being organised by the ZEO Zone-II under the sponsorship of Directorate of Education (S).
Headmasters, teachers and students of various Government schools in Imphal East district participated in the inaugural function of the remedial coaching.
Although various subject experts would be taking the classes of the remedial coaching to be conducted at Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy at Imphal as well as at Ching-Tam High School, Yaingangpokpi for the Imphal East district, scepticism have been expressed from some quarters that effort might go wasted that no fooding and lodging arrangements have not been made for students coming from far flung areas.
