Imphal, August 04 2026:
The All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO), Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) and Minorities Students' Association (MSA) have strongly opposed the inclusion of non-Muslims in the newly constituted Waqf Board, Manipur.
In a joint press release on Tuesday, the three organisations expressed strong disapproval of the State Government's order dated August 3, 2026, constituting the 8th Waqf Board with non-Muslim members.
They said the move has caused distress within the Pangal community.
The release stated that the Waqf Board is meant to manage Mosques, Madrasas, Maktabs, Qabristans and other Waqf properties of the Muslim community.
Like other religious boards where members are drawn from the same community, the inclusion of non-Muslims in the Waqf Board is unacceptable to the Pangal community.
The organisations noted that protests have been held across India, including in Manipur, against the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 .
MSA added that it had earlier taken up the matter with authorities seeking appointment of members as per rules.
The three bodies said they will deliberate further with Pangal CSOs and religious organisations.
A public meeting has been called at Hatta Golapati Community Hall on August 6, 2026 at 12 pm .
They have appealed to all CSOs and religious organisations in Manipur to attend and support the demand for a proper Waqf Board.
