Imphal, August 04 2010: Opposition Manipur People Party (MPP) Wednesday came down heavily on the SPF government for "miserably" failing in all fronts including in maintaining law and orders and controlling of soaring up of prices of essential commodities in the state.

The party also blamed the Central government for failing to intervene into the state of affairs prevailing "worse" situation of the state where people are bearing the burnt of artificial scarcity of essential items and sky rocketing of prices even though they had brought up the matter to the level of Prime Minister and Union Home Minister repeatedly.

In a statement MPP lamented that the Secular Progressive Front government in Manipur under the Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh is sending out free hands to its ministers and MLAs to do whatever they like and also looting the people by sending free hands to the police and security personnel in selling petroleum products in the black market.

Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh is giving license to the ministers and MLAs of ruling to do whatever they like has been indicated by the incident of assault of a Superintending of Engineer of Power Department by Congress MLA, K Meghachandra on last Wednesday at office chamber of the former.

The MLA intruded forcibly into the office chamber of the engineer under the protection of his personal security escort and assaulted the engineer.

He has used his escort personally in breaking the law.

This is not the first case in which ministers and MLAs of SPF government break the law, the MPP charged recalling the recent incident of shooting to injure of Advocate General by a minister using his license gun.

The party demanded initiation of legal action against the MLA.

The MLA who assaulted the engineer should be booked by registering FIR case.

MPP was critical of police and state security personnel involving in the grey market of petrol, diesel and cooking gas which was exposed by the tragic fire burnt incident that razed through Type-I Family-line quarters in the 2nd Manipur Rifles Complex.

Over 30 quarters with belongings of the families as well as illegally hoarding petrol and diesel worth several lakhs were destroyed by the inferno that estimated to have been originated from one of the quarter hoarding the fuel.

"Government, instead of controlling grey marketing of vehicle fuel, is sending out free hand to its police and security personnel in selling petrol and diesel in the black markets," the party charged criticizing the Chief Minister of giving a false statement of having no petrol and diesel in the government stock in the recently concluded budget session of the state Assembly.

The statement of the president charged that MR personnel in collusion with the police are diverting petrol and diesels from the government oil depot and selling it in the grey market.

It is the utter failure and the lack of interest of the present regime to address the plight of the common people.

The opposition party also blamed the Central government for its lack of interest in dealing with the plight of the people of the state even as they pleaded repeatedly to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister in a number of memoranda.

"We have appraised the matter to the Prime Minister and Home Minister to intervene into the state of affairs in Manipur considering the woes facing by the people but no step to relief the people from the artificial scarcity of essential commodities and sky rocketing of prices taken up so far," the statement lamented.
