Thanga residents stage sit-in protest condemning Tronglaobi, TM Kasom killings

Imphal, May 04 2026: Residents of Thanga on Monday staged a sit-in protest demonstration at Ibudhou Sanahal Shanglen, Thanga, strongly condemning the recent incidents at Tronglaobi and TM Kasom incident.

The protest was organised by the All Thanga Apunba Meira Paibi Organisation (ATAMPO), under the initiative of AMUCO, AMAWOVA, COHR, PLMPAM and MSF.

During the protest, protesters held placards bearing slogans such as "Let us live independently," "Stop acts of terrorism immediately," and "Go back Central forces who cannot protect the lives and property of civilians," while raising similar chants.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, ATAMPO vice-president Oinam Sorojini condemned the April 7 at Tronglaobi incident, in which two innocent children were killed, as well as the subsequent deaths of three civilians allegedly due to firing by CRPF personnel during protests that followed.

She further denounced the incident at TM Kasom under Litan Police Station, where two innocent Tangkhul civilians were reportedly killed in an ambush.

Terming both incidents as highly condemnable, she asserted that the perpetrators must be identified at the earliest and brought to justice.

Sarojini also urged the Government to take concrete steps to further prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

She warned that if the demands of the people are not addressed, intensified forms of agitation would continue.

During the protest, several speakers, including AMAWOVA advisor Usharani Chongtham, AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani, Poirei Leimarol general secretary Th Apabi, and AMUCO leader Dr Norendro Thokchom, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the role of the public in the prevailing situation of the State.
