Thoubal marks World Bicycle Day with rallies promoting green and healthy living

Thoubal, June 03 2026:
World Bicycle Day was observed across Thoubal district on Wednesday with bicycle rallies and awareness programmes aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.
A bicycle rally on the theme "Cycling for a Greener Future" was organised by the Thoubal Bicycle Riders Club to mark the occasion.
The rally was flagged off from Thoubal Wangmataba Devi Mandap by retired Assistant Director of SAI Imphal, Konsam Michael.
Participants cycled up to Wangjing before returning to culminate the event at Thoubal Mela Ground.
Speaking on the occasion, Thoubal Bicycle Riders Club convenor Samom Raghumani said that the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day in 2018 and that the club has been observing the day annually since the following year.
Appealing to the public to support the club's activities, Raghumani encouraged people to adopt cycling as a regular habit for maintaining good health and overall well-being.
The programme was also attended by chairman of the Thoubal Bicycle Riders Club, Dr Ksh Manglem, along with several members of the organisation.
Meanwhile, MY Bharat Thoubal, in collaboration with VLF Khangabok and BASE Academy Khangabok, organised another cycle rally at Khangabok as part of the World Bicycle Day celebrations.
The rally was flagged off by District Youth Officer Vishal Dhakad, who briefed participants on the significance of the programme and highlighted the benefits of cycling.
A total of 45 male and female volunteers, including VLF, workers and students, took part in the rally, reflecting the growing awareness among youths about the importance of eco-friendly and healthy modes of transportation.
