Awareness programme on 'Oil Palm Tree Cultivation' held

With the aim to promote oil palm cultivation in the State, a one-day awareness cum training programme on "Oil Palm Tree Cultivation" was held today at Thoubal.
Organised by the Patanjali Foods Ltd, the awareness cum training programme was held under National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) scheme.
The event was attended by NMEO-OP Nodal Officer, M Geetchandra Singh, Patanjali Foods Ltd State Head, Joshi Kiran and NMEO-OP consultant, MS Khaidem as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Patanjali Foods Ltd, State Head Joshi Kiran and NMEO-OP consultant, MS Khaidem stated that after successful trials were conducted on plantation of palm oil by the KVKs and Agriculture Department, it has come to our knowledge that palm oil cultivation is very much suitable in the State.
Therefore, under the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) programme, steps have been undertaken for widespread plantation in the State.
The crop can yield very high income to the farmers and has the advantage of a continuous harvest throughout the year, unlike many other crops, which have seasonal cycles, said the experts during the programme.
During the programme, the experts also gave an in-depth training to the participants on how to successfully cultivate oil palm, requirements for oil palm plantation and the benefits of oil palm plantation.
