Department of Textiles wraps up Nation First @75 Campaign

The 15-day Nation First @75 Campaign which showcased 75 motifs of handloom and handicraft products at the Manipur Handlooms and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd campus at Paona Bazar, Imphal came to a close today.
The campaign was launched on September 18 by the Department of Textiles, Commerce & Industry under Viksit Bharat, Viksit Manipur initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Elangbam Jeeten, Director, Handlooms & Textiles called for collective effort to bring the handloom and handicraft products of Manipur under the Reservation Act to prevent other States from copying and manufacturing these items.
Speaking on the introduction of machines in different fields leading to job displacement in the digital age, he pointed out the need to conduct workshops on the subject to safeguard handloom products and the interests of artisans.
He recommended providing assistance to artisans in securing marketplaces, protecting their designs and sourcing raw materials.
In order to empower the weavers economically, demand for their products should be met with adequate supply and product quality should be improved, added the Director.
Further, he said that 75 religious and cultural motifs of different communities of the State have been showcased during the campaign.
Other dignitaries present at the event include Th Basanta, Deputy Director, MHHDC; Y Jugeshwari, Project Manager, Imphal West, District Handlooms & Textiles; National awardee M Radhamani and designer H Sukumar.
