Tributes paid to Ashangbam Mineketan on 120th birth anniversary

Thoubal, May 02 2026: Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura observed the 120th birth anniversary of renowned Manipuri poet Ashangbam Minaketan at Nalgoria Forum in Tarou Meitei Leikai, Ranir Bazar, Tripura today.

The prolific writer was bom on May 2, 1906 at Wangkhei, Imphal.

The gathering offered a floral tribute before the photo of the Padmashree Kavi and pioneer of modem Manipuri literature.

Khoisnam Birala, member, Manipuri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi delivered the welcome address.

The ceremony was presided over by Laipubam Ranjan Sharma, senior member of Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, while L Birmangal Singha, president, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Tripura was present as the chief guest.

Sija Malina, executive member, Sahitya Parishad presented a paper on the "Life & Works of Kavi Ashangbam Minaketan Singh" .

Khoisnam Mangal, secretary, Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura and RK Tarunjit, Editor, Marup newspaper also spoke on the occasion.

A poetry reading session was conducted with the participation of L Mina, L Pratima Sharma, Kh Kanika and H Sarika among others.
