AR refutes fake encounter story

Imphal, January 02 2013 : Refuting media reports on killing a ZUF cadre identified as SS Cpl Gaungsingam Dangmei (18), s/o Gangdi Dangmei of Noney Bazaar by 10 Assam Rifles in an alleged fake encounter, PIB (Defence Wing) on Wednesday asserted that the allegations of fake encounter killing are an afterthought by undesirable elements to pressurize the security forces.

In a statement, PIB Defence Wing said that based on information received on movement of armed UGs in the area of Lamdangmai and Sangji, secueity forces of Red Shield Division laid ambushes in these areas in the night of Dec 30.During early hours of Dec 31, some movement was noticed.

On being challenged, the unknown personnel started firing at the security forces.

The security forces returned the fire and one terrorist latter identified as Gaungsingam Dangmei was killed and one point 22mm pistol, four live rounds and one fired case were recovered from the site.

Quoting intelligence reports, the PIB Defence Wing statement asserted that SS Cpl Guangsingam Dangmei joined NSCN-IM and was trained at Buning Camp.

But he deserted NP Bn of NSCN (IM) in 2011 and joined ZUF.

He was working under SS Cpt Abung and was also involved in the IFCs at Oktan and Tamenglong in 2012 as well as in kidnapping of a railway company employee in December 2012 for extortion.

Pointing out that the bandh call of ZSUM has come in the wake of conclusive involvement of David Kamei, a member of the students' organization in assisting cadres of NSCN-(K) and NNC to escape from security forces in Noney, the PIB Defence Wing statement said that ZUF cadres have been visiting the house of Guangsingam at Noney Bazar since the operation by security forces started to conact and plant malicious stories against the Assam Rifles at Noney.

The statement also clarified that Assam Rifles had not picked up any person from Lukhambi on December 30 and there is no prior knowledge of any person by the name of W Nanao.

AR is committed to conduct operation in a professional manner to rid the state from the scourge of terrorism.

The allegations made are a figment of imaginations of some misguided people with ulterior motives, the statement added.
