World AIDS Day observed across State

Ukl/Tbl/Imp, December 01 2015: PLHA Ukhrul today observed the World AIDS Day at DRDA hall.

Speaking at the programme, Dr Kapangring, DACO, DAPCU, Ukhrul called upon all concerned to collectively fight against HIV/AIDS menace.

Worshang Hungyo, SDO, Ukhrul who also attended the programme said that with proper treatment, medication and positive approach, people living with HIV/AIDS can lead blissful life like any other normal people.

During the programme, Leishiphung Christian Hospital was honoured for providing required medical facilities to PLHIV.

A lady living with HIV/AIDS was also awarded the title "Longest survivor on ART" .

According to latest reports, there are over 1558 PLHA who have registered for Pre-ART and 799 PLHIV receiving ART at different ART Centres of Ukhrul.

In the meantime, the Ist PLHA women Community-Based Organization (CBO) was also inaugurated at Phungreitang.

A candle light vigil was also held in remembrance of the departed souls.

District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal in collaboration with the Women in Governance Thoubal , Thoubal Network of Positive People Thoubal and Fancier Higher Secondary School observed the World AIDS Day under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, Imphal at Fancier Higher Secondary School, Thoubal Wangmataba, reports our correspondent.

The observance programme was attended by Chairman of DLSA, Thoubal A Guneshwar Sharma, Fancier Higher Secondary School Principal S Nimai Singh and Thoubal Chief Judicial Magistrate Ojesh Mutum as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Dr Ksh Manglem Singh, Retd Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal, Advocate Kh Arunjoy Singh, A Gopendro Sharma, Additional Public Prosecutor and Advocate N Madhu Singh were the resource persons during the programme.

An interaction session was held.

Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) jointly observed the 28th World Aids Day promoting the global theme 'Getting to zero : Zero HIV infections.

Zero discrimination.

Zero Aids related death' at Manipur Press Club today under the aegis of India HIV/AIDS Alliance VIHAAN project and MSACS.

Chief guest of the observation, Manipur State Aids Control Society (MSACS) Project Director, Pradeep Kumar Jha, stressed the importance of educating younger generation about HIV/AIDS.

The awareness of the disease will assist in the fight against the disease.

CADA president Advocate Yumnam Ratankumar said understanding HIV/AIDS is one of the important approach towards fighting the spread of the disease.

AMWJU president Wangkemcha Shamjai and Dr N Sushil Kumar, HOD, Defence Studies, DM College of Science were also present in the observation today.

A similar observation was held at Model Higher Secondary School, Takyelpat, organised by District AIDS prevention and control committee, DAPCC Imphal west.

Imphal west Chief Medical Officer Dr H Kula; Model Higher Secondary School senior Lecturer Tongbram Bimolchand and Imphal West District TB Officer Dr Ch Memcha graced the observation as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Kula said increased awareness on the disease may help reduce the spread of the disease in the State.

To overcome the challenges pertaining HIV/AIDS, the people must work collectively in the coming years.

Awarness programmes, counselling and seminars on how to prevent AIDS/HIV can help to reduce the stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV/AIDS, Bimolchand said.

A quiz competition and a short rally on AIDS/HIV were also held as a part the observation.

FXB India Suraksha, Manipur Branch observed the "World AIDS Day 2015" at three different locations � Bamon Kampu, Kongba and Heingang with children, caregivers and stakeholders today.

Khoi Dinesh, North East Programme Officer of FXBIS remarked that the Day was observed to spread awareness about the epidemic and end the fear and discrimination against HIV/AIDS patients.

He further stated that the theme of "Getting To Zero: zero new infection, zero AIDS related death and zero discrimination can be succeeded only when the people take up collective responsibilities with sincerity and commitment.

Manipur as one of the high prevalent States, the care and support initiatives need to be enhanced.

There were altogether 153 participants including stakeholders, beneficiaries, children and their caregivers, according to a statement.
