First consignment of organic pineapple en route to Dubai

In a significant milestone for Manipur Middle East Foodstuff Trading SPS-LLC, a consignment of organic and naturally grown pineapples from Meghalaya was successfully dispatched to Dubai on July 31, 2025 .
The consignment of 2 metric tonnes was flagged off from Assam Airport by Mostakim Hussain, Assistant Nodal Officer under the joint initiative of Atul Bora, president of Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and Minister of Agriculture and Horticulture, Government of Assam and S Brojen Singh, president of Manipur People's Party (MPP) .
As per a release issued by Arambam Karamjit Singh, general secretary of MPP, the initiative was undertaken as a joint effort involving the Agriculture and Horticulture Department of Assam, the Manipur Middle East Foodstuff Trading SPS-LLC, Ajman, UAE.
The produce was sourced from farmers in Meghalaya, and further consignments from Manipur and Assam are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
Representatives from certification authorities such as APEDA and Phytosanitary were also present during the dispatch ceremony.
According to Jotin Thokchom, Business Development Manager (Overseas) at Manipur Middle East Foodstuff Trading SPS-LLC cum Central Committee member of MPP, an organic produce hub is set to be established in Assam under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) mission of the Government of India.
The hub aims to facilitate organic growers from across Northeast India.
Furthermore, plans are underway to establish an organic vegetable mandi in every Northeastern States, to boost organic farming industry and provide better market access for local farmers in the
region.
