Imphal, June 01 2009: The state cabinet has decided to remove offices of private bodies, NGOs and student organisations from the campus of government run educational institutions and offices.

A meeting of the state cabinet held this afternoon at the conference hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat decided to direct the district authorities to give 15 days' time to all organisations which have their offices on the campus of all government institutes and offices to leave bag and baggage.

A cabinet source said that as soon as the cabinet decision is received by the district administrations, they will issue relevant notifications ordering the private bodies and NGOs which have their offices on the campus of the government institutes to leave within 15 days.

The decision of the cabinet was purportedly based on taking steps to maintain rule of law, sources said, this will affect the student bodies such as All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF).

It is worth recalling here that Chief Minister O Ibobi, while attending the Silver Jubilee celebrations of DM College some time back as the chief guest, had expressed his astonishment as to how the AMSU had established its office on the campus of DM College without approval of the government.

Therefore, the sources said, following today's cabinet decision, there are chances of removing the office building of the AMSU from the campus of the DM College.

With the irrepressible will of Chief Minister O Ibobi in eviction, expansion and demolition, it is most likely that the structure of the AMSU's office will be razed to the ground, the sources felt.

Moreover, the head office of DESAM which is located at the Modhu Girls' High School near Keishampat junction may also be evicted from there.

Then the head office of MSF which was earlier located at the Tombisana High School and now has been shifted in to the building of RDS may also be evicted from there once the cabinet decision is implemented.

Not only the student bodies, other private buildings, homes, quarters, etc.

without approval of the authority concerned will also be evicted from their present locations.

The government action will be implemented in the four valley districts first.

Unless the government takes up actions like this, it will be imitated in the hill districts too, the cabinet felt, the source added.
