AMUCO, TUC celebrate

All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and Thangmeiband United Club (TUC), jointly organised a programme at Thangmeiband Cheiroaching to mark the 130th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, today.
The programme, which was attended by members of various organisations including those affiliated with AMUCO, included a tribute-paying ceremony at the bust of the Lamyanba at Martyrs Memorial complex.
Speaking on the occasion, AMUCO president Sorokhaibam Sanjoy said that Hijam Irabot was born on September 30, 1896, at Pishum Oinam Leikai and passed away on September 26, 1951, in the Anggo Hills area along the Burma (Myanmar) border.
He said Lamyanba Irabot made significant contributions towards education, culture and sports while working for the uplift of the people and the establishment of a progressive society.
He added that the contributions of the Lamyanba, who devoted his entire life to the welfare of the people, remain relevant even today.
Sanjoy said Irabot was a leader who fought for the rights of the oppressed and played a significant role in the Nupi Lan and in championing the interests of peasants and workers.
He called upon the people to collectively carry forward the legacy of Irabot and work towards building a progressive and harmonious society.
