Awareness programme on PACS held in Thoubal
emphasis on strengthening cooperative movement

Thoubal, June 30 2026:
A one-day awareness and motivational programme on Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) was organised today at Kshetri Shanglen, Thoubal Achouba, with an aim to strengthen the cooperative sector and create awareness about the expanding role of PACS in rural development.
The programme was organised by the District Cooperative Officer, Thoubal, in collaboration with the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur.
The event was attended by Secretary of the Cooperation Department, Government of Manipur, W Malemnganba Chenglei, as chief guest, while Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur, Waikhom Ibohal Singh, presided over the programme as functional president.
Other dignitaries present included Director of Directorate of Extension Education (DEE), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, and Dean of College of Food Technology, Prof Dr Ng Iboyaima Singh; Joint Registrar (Audit), Cooperative Societies, Manipur, Yumlembam Inaobi Singh; and District Cooperative Officer, Thoubal, Wahengbam Seitajit Singh, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar of Cooperative Societies Waikhom Ibohal Singh stated that cooperative societies are the backbone of the nation and highlighted the importance of strengthening PACS to bring about positive changes in society.
He said the Government of India has been giving special emphasis to PACS and various responsibilities have been entrusted to them, including issuing licences for pharmacies, sale of fertilisers, opening petrol pumps, setting up gas agencies and distribution of various Public Distribution System (PDS) items.
He stressed the need for cooperative societies in Manipur to keep pace with developments taking place across the country and said such programmes are being organised to enhance the capacity and understanding of members.
Waikhom Ibohal also encouraged participants to share the knowledge gained from the programme with other members of their respective societies and work collectively towards strengthening the cooperative movement.
Resource persons from various departments, including Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, MANIREDA, Fisheries, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Thoubal and Agriculture Department, attended the programme and delivered presentations on different schemes and opportunities related to cooperative development.
