District Level Coordination Committee meet of NTCP held

Thoubal, April 30 2025: The District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) for Thoubal district was held today at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner Thoubal.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, A Subhash IAS, who is also the chairman of the committee said that the law enforcing authority in coordination with the DLCC should conduct drives in various places including educational institutions and fines should be imposed for effective implementation of (COTPA), 2003 .

He said that to promote "Tobacco Free" villages, involvement of elected members of local bodies is necessary.

The Committee should tie up with the members and conduct awareness programmes in the villages and localities about the harmful effects of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

In the previous year, Sangai Youth Tobacco Free and Educational Organisation - State level NGO and ZEO Thoubal organised awareness programmes in 10(ten) schools in the District.

These schools have been declared as Tobacco Free Educational Institutions as per guidelines of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) .

The meeting also discussed promoting "Tobacco Free" villages and enforcing the "Cigarettes and other Tobacco Product Act (COTPA), 2003" effectively in the district.

The meeting was attended by SDO Thoubal & Lilong, representatives of the police department and other members of DLCC .
