The Moirang District Demand Committee has urged the State Government to pass a bill granting full-fledged revenue district status to Moirang during the winter.
Assembly session on grounds of administrative convenience and historical importance.
The demand was made during a one-day public meeting held to discuss the subject at Moirang Kumam Leikai Mandop organised by the Moirang District Demand Committee.
RK Kheda, president, Moirang District Demand Committee presided over the meeting with leaders of CSOs from Moirang AC, Thanga AC and Kumbi AC as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Hemam Boyai, spokesperson, Moirang District Demand Committee said that the demand was raised from the early part of 1980 but the subsequent governments have failed to fulfill it till date.
The demand was neglected during the bifurcation of Imphal district in 1996 and the creation of 7 new districts in 2016.Recalling the need for a Statewide survey to reorganise district boundaries highlighted during the Assembly session in August this year, he urged the State Government to pass a bill during the winter session of the Assembly and make Moirang sub-division a full-fledged revenue district.
Stating that parts of Pherzawl and Churachandpur district should be included in the creation of Moirang district, he added that a memorandum containing 100+ pages was submitted to Manipur Chief Minister and Governor listing all the necessary documents in this regard.
If the Government continues to neglect their demand, the Committee will launch a series of agitations with the support of the Moirang public, he said.
