Herbert School celebrates National Sports Day

Herbert School celebrated National Sports Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and spirit on Saturday at the School Auditorium.
The celebration aimed to commemorate sportsmanship, fitness and healthy living, while inspiring students to recognise the importance of sports alongside academics.
The programme was graced by Oinam Bembem Devi, DSP (Sports), Atjuna Awardee and Padma Shri Awardee, as a special guest.
The programme began with a welcome address by the Academic Coordinator who highlighted objectives and significance of organising the event.
In his address, the Principal said National Sports Day is observed every year on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of India's greatest hockey players.
He encouraged students to develop a healthy balance between academics and sports.
Addressing students, Bembem Devi shared insights from her sporting career.
She highlighted the importance of maintaining balance between studies and sports.
Recalling her football journey, she narrated how she began with a local club in Manipur and went on to become Captain of Indian National Women's Football Team and represented India for 21 years.
Her journey motivated students to dream big and work hard.
The highlight was a vibrant demonstration of sporting talents by students which reflected their physical agility.

The performances included Yoga by girls of Class XII-C, Thang-Chai Haiba by Lanthoibi Naorem of Class XI-F, Leiteng Thang Jagoi by Golda Khangembam of Class XI-D, Thang Chainaba by Y Binita of Class XII-A1 and Mercy M of Class XII-C and Ta Khousaba by Waikhom Birbhana of Class XII-A1.The programme was anchored by Romita, HOD, Department of English, whose confident and engaging presentation kept the audience involved throughout.
