Regional Forensic Medicine Conference begins

The Regional Forensic Medicine Conference 2025, held under the aegis of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine with the theme "Biometrics in Criminalistics", was inaugurated today at Jubilee Hall, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal.
The conference was organised by the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, RIMS, Imphal.
As per a release issued by RIMS, the inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Prof S Subhaschandra Singh, In-Charge Medical Superintendent; Prof B Praveen Reddy, Principal, Dental College, RIMS; Prof Th Meera Devi, Head of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, RIMS; and Prof Memchoubi Ph, Organising Secretary.
Addressing the gathering, Prof G Sunil Kumar stressed the growing role of biometrics in criminal investigations and the need for experts to stay ahead of emerging threats amid rapid AI advances.
He also highlighted RIMS' milestones such as the introduction of virtual autopsy and plans for a Forensic Science Laboratory.
The Director further thanked the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine for its support, and urged students to contribute actively to advancing the field and strengthening justice.
As part of the function, the conference e-souvenir was formally released, highlighting the objectives, scientific sessions, and contributions from experts in the field.
The conference was attended by Heads of Departments, residents, and students, marking a significant step in fostering dialogue, research, and innovation in forensic medicine.
