Imphal, December 29: In a bizarre case of protest against non-repairing of bad road, the Thoubal-Mayang Imphal road was dug up on two spots by the people settling along the road.

As a result, the road was virtually blocked and the commuters along the road including petty traders had to endure severe hardships.

According to people residing along the road, the Thoubal-Mayang Imphal road which links Thoubal district with Imphal West district has been left unattended since 17 years back.

Some years back, the WBM work was somehow, completed along the road but the authority concerned then left the road as it was without undertaking the black topping work.

Because of the pathetic road condition, people have been enduring severe inconveniences over the years.

Enraged with the failure of the authority concerned to redress the woes of the people for such a long period, the road blockade stir was launched.

The infuriated people said that they would not revoke their agitation of blocking the road until and unless the road is repaired completely.

In case the State Govt fails to take up some concrete actions to redress the woes of the people, the forthcoming Assembly elections would be boycotted besides launching other severe forms of agitation.

On the other hand, the commuters and traders who are dependent on the route appealed to the authority concerned to repair the road and to address the problem.

They also agreed that numerous accidents have occurred along the road claiming precious live due to the sorry state of the road.

In a similar vein, representatives of AMMSO, AMMOCOC and Clubs Coordinating Committee cautioned that the political parties constituting the SPF Govt would be boycotted in addition to prohibiting all their election related activities in case the State Govt fails to repair the road at the earliest as per the wish of the people.
