Thoubal, November 29 2025:
Women vendors of the Wangjing-Heirok Lamkhai New Market have issued a strong ultimatum to the authorities demanding immediate repair of the road leading to the market.
They cautioned that if no visible action is taken within five days, they will resort to launching a road block protest by digging up the road.
Speaking at a press conference, Maibam Ibecha Devi, president of the Wangjing New Market Management Committee, said the market approach road is in a severely deplorable condition.
She stated that during the dry seasons, thick dust covers the entire stretch, posing major health hazards to elderly vendors and affecting those who depend solely on the market for their livelihood.
She added that due to the worsening road condition, many women vendors are struggling to conduct their daily business smoothly.
Ibecha Devi warned that if the Government and concerned departments continue to ignore the issue, the vendors will be compelled to block the road by digging it up as a form of protest.
