Goitang village advisor warns against unauthorized activities, urges adherence to customary laws

Imphal, March 29 2026: Advisor of Goitang village, Duangthaolung Riamei, has appealed to all concerned individuals to strictly adhere to the established rules and customary laws of the village, cautioning against convening any unauthorized meetings or activities within its jurisdiction.

Addressing media persons during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club on Sunday, Riamei stated that Goitang village, located under Khoupum sub-division of Noney district, is one of the oldest settlements in the area.

He noted that the village has been traditionally inhabited by the Riamei Kaikhwang clan since its early days.

He emphasized that no individual or group is permitted to take independent decisions or undertake any activity within the village without the consent of the Riamei Kaikhwang.

According to him, such consent is essential to maintain order and uphold the long-standing traditions of the community.

Riamei further highlighted that the village functions under a well-defined system of traditional governance rooted in customary laws passed down by the forefathers.

He cautioned that any action that bypasses or violates these established norms would be considered a direct challenge to the village's identity, traditions, and authority.

Stressing the importance of preserving the village's heritage, he warned that any interference in village matters without proper approval would invite consequences, for which the concerned individuals would be held accountable.

He also indicated that the village authority may resort to legal measures if necessary to safeguard its customary practices and governance system.
