Kakching, June 28 2025:
In view of the ongoing desilting initiative along the drains of NH 137 (A) at Kakching Keithel, local bodies of Kakching have sought the permission of MAHUD Department and the concerned public to allow Kakching Municipal Council (KMC) to use the desilting machine for a few more days to complete the dredging effort.
KMC is playing a major role in the initiative which commenced from June 25.Addressing a press conference at Kakching Keithel today, P Samarendra, advisor, Joint Non-Govemment Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) said that with the help of KMC Caretaker Chairperson N Shanjitkumar, Councillors and newly appointed Senior Chief Executive Officer Thokchom Siddhartha, KMC managed to get the sole de-silting machine in the State from Imphal Municipal Corporation.
With the assistance of local shopkeepers, the desilting of drains along NH-137 (A) at Kakching Keithel has been going on, he added.
Thanking all involved officials for dispatching the desilting machine for a specific period, Y Rajendra, president, Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association explained that as the drains have not been cleared for a prolonged period, the desilting effort is going to take longer than expected.
As a result, he has urged the relevant authority and people from flood-affected regions who might need the machine to allow KMC to use the desilting machine for two or three more days and allow them to complete the desilting effort.
