World Menstrual Hygiene Day observed at Heirok

World Menstrual Hygiene Day was observed at Chingdompok High School, Heirok Part-II, Litan on Thursday under the theme "Together for a Period Friendly World" .
The programme was organised by Ningol Club, Heirok, and attended by secretary of the club, Moirangthem Inunganbi Chanu; former president Sophiya Khundongbam; and Principal of Chingdompok High School, Laishram Binod, as presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, Laishram Binita, Assistant Secretary of Ningol Club, extended greetings to all menstruating women of Manipur and stressed the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene for ensuring better health and wellbeing among women.

Highlighting this year's theme, she said women and girls should not feel ashamed to speak openly about menstruation, seek proper information, use safe sanitary products and maintain hygienic practices during periods.
She further stated that women should not be subjected to physical or mental stress during menstruation and stressed the need for care, support and understanding.
Emphasising that menstruation is a natural biological process, she called for an end to all forms of stigma associated with periods.
Laishram Binita also urged society to collectively work towards spreading awareness on menstrual hygiene and ensuring access to accurate information without hesitation or embarrassment.
She noted that Ningol Club has been actively organising awareness programmes, poster campaigns, rallies and sanitary pad distribution drives over the years to promote menstrual hygiene awareness among women and students.
As part of the observance, sanitary pads were distributed to over 100 girl students.
The organisers stated that the club would continue its efforts in promoting awareness on menstrual hygiene while also focusing on education, health and self-sustainability for women empowerment in the region.
