Legal awareness programmes held at Tengnoupal, Thoubal

Tengnoupal/Thoubal, December 27 2025:
The District Legal Services Authority, Chandel organised a legal awareness cum outreach initiative on "New Criminal Laws" for police personnel, investigating officers and relevant stakeholders at Mission Veng, YMA Hall-Ward No 2, Moreh, Tengnoupal district.
The programme was organised under the joint aegis of National Legal Services Authority and Manipur State Legal Services Authority, with special emphasis on Illegal Detention, Arrest & Seizure under NALSA's Early Access to Justice at Pre-Arrest, Arrest & Remand Stage, said a press release issued by Phungreishung PA, secretary, DLSA Chandel.
The event was presided by Fakhrul Islam Choudhury, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Moreh cum Deputy Member Secretary, Manipur State Legal Services Authority as resource person.
The participants were sensitized on the three new criminal laws.
The resource person further talked about illegal arrest and violation of fundamental rights highlighting the grounds for arrest and reasons for arrest to be considered by a police or security personnel.
Police officers, Investigating Officers and Central Security Forces attended the said awareness and outreach initiative programme.
Separately, the Legal Aid Clinic Heirok, Salungpham Youth Club and MSRLM Wangjing CD Block jointly organised a legal awareness programme at Salungpham Mayai Leikai Community Hall today.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal.
Notable dignitaries present include Dr Sarungbam Ronel Singh, Block Mission Manager, Wangjing Tentha CD Block; W Chaoyaima Singh, Chairperson, Kangyambem Gram Panchayat and Leimapokpam Amit Singh, OC, Heirok Police Station as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
On the occasion, Khoisnam Lembisana Meidingu, Panel Lawyer, District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal spoke about "Victim Compensation Scheme & Domestic Violence" while Panel Lawyer Khoisnam Jeton Meitei addressed the topic "POCSO Act 2012 and detention, Arrest and Bail".
Delivering the keynote address, Wahengbam Jiban, Co-ordinator, Legal Aid Clinic, Heirok, said that the legal awareness programme was held to educate the villagers, especially the women folk, about the legal rights and provisions enshrined in the Constitution of India.
Later, the attendees interacted with the speakers at the legal awareness programme.
