International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed widely

As celebrated across the globe, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking or World Drug Day was observed widely in the State under the theme "The evidence is clear: Invest in prevention" on Wednesday.
Korou Foundation- Substance Abuse Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre (SATRC), a non-profit organisation working for humanity & upliftment of society, celebrated International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Meitei Langol, near Thongak Lairembi, Imphal West district yesterday.
The event organised under the sponsorship of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur was chaired jointly by Herojit Sagolshem, president U-Trust; senior counsellor RK Dinesh Dhuru and Bosen Chingakham, secretary/PD KF-SATRC.

Khogendro Pangambam, OC, Lamphel PS and his team attended the event as special guests.
The inmates of Korou Foundation, Overcomers along with its staff also attended the programme anchored by Sonamani.
The observation began with a welcome address delivered by RK Dinesh.
During the event, Herojit spoke about the purpose of the observation while Bosen Chingakham gave a short message about the observation's goal of a drug free society and a world free of drug use.
Bosen Chingakham informed that as part of the observation, the Foundation will be organising a tree plantation drive with the motto, "Just Say No To Drugs" and "Plant A Green Tree & Live Younger" .
He also shared that Geetchandra, Deputy Ranger Soil and Water Conservation, Division I Lamdeng donated 120 nursery saplings to the Foundation.
ASSAM RIFLES
To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Assam Rifles has conducted a series of impactful lectures and oath-taking ceremonies across the State.
According to a release issued by HQ IGAR(South), the primary event took place at Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthong, Imphal West district, attended by 100 students.
Similar lectures were also held for 233 troops at Mantripukhri Garrison; 62 local youths at Company Operating Bases in Chandrakhong, Lilong, Singjamei, and Thoubal; and 350 students and 10 teachers at Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Nongpok Ching, Thoubal.
In Sajik Tampak, Chandel district, and Government School, Phundrei, Kakching district, Assam Rifles emphasized the wide repercussions of substance abuse on mental, physical, and economic health.
A total of 28 men, 17 women and 40 children participated, showing their support for a drug-free community.
Key points discussed included the impact of drug abuse on public health and safety, strategies employed by Assam Rifles to combat drug trafficking, and the importance of collaboration with local communities.
The events concluded with the participants taking an oath to support each other and promote a drug-free society, reinforcing the Assam Rifles motto of "Friends of the North East" .
Notably, in the past year, HQ IGAR (South) has recovered contraband worth Rs 840 crore in Manipur, identified 2,029 acres of poppy cultivation, and destroyed 1,782 acres.
Imphal East DC Office Complex
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also celebrated yesterday at Imphal East Deputy Commissioner Office Complex in Porompat, jointly organised by the District Administration Imphal East and District Social Welfare Officer.
It was attended by Imphal East ki DC/DM, Khumanthem Diana; Imphal East, DSWO, Waikhom Thamapati; officers & staff of District Administration, District Police and students.
As part of the celebration, a mass rally was also carried out under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The participants led by Khumanthem Diana also pasted posters at various places to spread awareness about drugs & substance abuse.
