MU hosts District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026

Imphal, February 27 2026: The District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 for Imphal West unfolded successfully today at the Senate Hall, Manipur University.

Organised by the NSS Cell, Manipur University, in collaboration with MY Bharat, Imphal West, and under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, the event drew dynamic youth representatives from across the district.

The inaugural ceremony featured dignitaries such as Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, MU; retired Lt Gen Konsom Himalay Singh; Prof Ch Ihohal Singh, Dean, Students' Welfare, MU; Prof L Santosh Singh, NSS Programme Coordinator.

MU; and Dr Salam Danachandra Singh, Director, MY Bharat, Imphal West.

Centered on the theme "50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy", the programme targeted youth aged 18-25.Nine nodal institutions in Manipur have been entrusted with the responsibility of organising the District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026, and each is mandated to complete the district-level programme by February 28, 2026, and select the best five participants to represent their respective districts at the State-Level Youth Parliament, scheduled to be held next month at the State Assembly.

During the function, Prof N Lokendra felicitated youth icons Linthoinganbi Devi, an international footballer, and Th Lansana Devi, NEZCC Young Talent Award recipient.

Lt Gen Konsom Himalay honored NSS volunteers from the National Integration Camp at Gujarat University.

In his address, Prof N Lokendra underscored the National Youth Parliament Festival's (NYPF) growth since 2019, now covering all 763 districts.

He described the Viksit Bharat platform as ideal for solution-oriented outcomes, fostering grasp of public issues, informed opinions, and respect for diverse views.

The ideas and recommendations will be documented and shared with policymakers, amplifying youth voices in shaping India's future, said Prof N Lokendra.

Dr Kh Herachandra Singh, NSS Programme Officer, gave thanks for the inaugural session.

A lively parliamentary debate followed, inaugurated by jury members.

Participants tackled key issues with critical thinking and democratic fervor.

Following the conclusion of the parliamentary proceedings, the judges provided insightful closing remarks, offering constructive feedback and encouragement to the young participants.

Based on overall performance, clarity of thought, articulation, and adherence to parliamentary decorum, the jury selected the top five participants: Munisana Thongbam, Lepsopthei Kasar, Khumukcham Srinivash Singh, S Kabita Devi, and Potshangbam Borrish Kumar.

The winners received Certificates of Appreciation; all participants got participation certificates.

The event concluded on a gracious note, with Dr Dalip Singh, NSS Programme Officer, delivering the final vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to all involved for contributing to the grand success of the programme.
