National seminar on "Women in unorganised sectors" conducted

A 1-Day National Seminar on the topic, "Women in Unorganised Sectors Challenges and Prospects in North East India" was conducted yesterday at Court Hall, Manipur University, Canchipur.
The seminar was organised by the Department of Sociology, Manipur University under the sponsorship of National Commission for Women (NCW) .
New Delhi.
It was attended by Prof N Lokendra, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University; Prof Thoidingjam Pumima, Dean, School of Social Science, MU; Dr Binota Meinam, former Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Chuongsin Koireng, Member, MSCW as presidium members.
Prof Manisha Tripathu, Director, Centre for North East Studies & Policy Research, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi also attended the workshop as a special invitee.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof N Lokendra highlighted the contribution of women in driving social, economic, and political changes in Northeast India.
He also elaborated on the unique social landscape of Northeast India, where distinct differences exist between hill and valley communities.
He asserted that the Khwairamband Ima Keithel, an iconic all-woman marketplace, is a powerful example of women's historical involvement in the region.
As part of the workshop, a book titled "Cultural Landscapes of South and South East Asia" was also released.
