Tributes paid to Lamyanba Hijam Irawat

Bishnupur/Jiribam/Thoubal/, September 26 2026: To commemorate the visionary leader Lamyan Hijam Irawat, various programmes were held across the State and beyond today recalling his significant contributions and legacy.

Bishnupur

The death anniversary of Hijam Irabot was observed at Ningthoukhong Bazar organised by Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC) Ningthoukhong under the sponsorship of D-CACUS Foundation and Lions Club of Ningthoukhong.

A poetry recitation competition on Lamyanba Irawat for students of class VIII to X from Phubala till Nachou was held as a part of the observation, said a press note by ICC Ningthoukhong.

The winners were presented with a memento, dictionary, certificates and cash prizes.

Jiribam

The 75 th death anniversary observance of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was held in Jiribam district, under the leadership of Dr Chandam Kamal Singh, Life Time President of the Jana Neta Irawat Memorial Trust (JIMET).

As part of the observance, floral tributes were paid to the statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot located inside the Irabot Complex at Babupara, in the heart of Jiribam district.

Reports added that a traditional torch-lighting (meira) tribute will also be offered at the leader's statue later in the evening.

Speaking to media persons at the event, JIMET vice-president Ch Ranjit Kumar Singh stated that although the members of JIMET had initially planned to organize the observance on a grand scale as done every year, this year's program had to be kept simple due to certain unavoidable inconveniences.

He further assured that the anniversary function will be celebrated on a much larger scale in the coming year.

Thoubal

The 130th Lamyanba Hijam Irawat Commemoration programme was held today at Wangjing Hodamba Maning Leikai Pukhri Achouba Lampak organised by Lamyanba Hijam Irawat Ningsing Numit Thougal Lup, Wangjing Tentha AC.

Social Worker & National Awardee Kshetrimayum Priyobata; retired Section Officer of Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Yangambam Manao Singh; social worker Likmabam Ashokumar and social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram graced as the presidium members and resource persons of the programme.

The programme witnessed a large turn-out of the locals of the region.

Ksh Priyobata also distributed weaving cards to selected weavers from Wangjing Tentha AC.

Speaking as the chief guest, Ksh Priyobata recalled the contributions of Lamyanba Irabot who strove earnestly for the welfare of the society.

Meanwhile, the observance of 75th death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was held at the residence of renowned writer Khundongbam Gunamani Leima at Heirok Part II Thokchom Leikai organised by Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi Lup.

Paying floral tributes to the portrait of Lamyanba Irabot and discussion programme on his life and contributions were the highlights of the observance.

Irawat Celebration Committee Thoubal & Wangkhem Local Council, CPI organised the 130th Jana Neta Irawat birth anniversary observation at Taibang Maheikol complex Thoubal Wangmataba today.

Manipur State Council, CPI secretary A Nabachandra, veteran Communist, Maxist Theoretician Th Yaiskul, veteran Communist leader M Samungou and veteran Communist leader S Maipak graced as the presidium members of the programme.

The presidium members led in paying floral tributes to the portrait of Lamyanba Irabot.

Addressing as the chief guest, Manipur State Council, CPI secretary A Nabachandra stressed on the importance of sensitising the younger generation about the ideology of the visionary leader Lamyanba Irabot who strove for a unified Manipur.

Guwahati

A bust of visionary leader Hijam Irawat was unveiled at 10 Mile, Amsing Jorabat in Guwahati today.

The event was organised by Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur and its Assam Branch in collaboration with Manipuri Leima Lup Eastern Guwahati, Assam, said a press note by PAWF Manipur.

Speaking as the chief guest, Khurai AC MLA Leishangthem Susindro Meitei lauded PAWF Manipur, Assam and Tripura for their earnest efforts to spread the ideology of Hijam Irawat by erecting his bust and organising sensitization programmes at different places beyond Manipur.

He also appealed to the forum to take up initiative to install a bust at Ango Chingkhing in Tangbaw village in Myanmar which is believed to be where Irawat breathed his last and assured all possible help from his end for the cause.

Susindro highlighted the importance of instilling the principle of Irabot and his vision of an egalitarian society among the youths of today.

PAWF, Manipur president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang; PAWF Guwahati Branch president Thounaojam Shyam; PAWF former president Yaiskul Khwairakpam; World Meetei Council Central Executive Committee Chairman, Colonel Tensubam Gokul Singha, PAWF Manipur secretary Rakesh Naorem and other members of the forum attended as the presidium members.

Retired Lt Col Keisam Tejomani Singha spoke on the contributions of Lamyanba Irawat in Manipuri society.

The other dignitaries also spoke on the life, ideology and contributions of Lamyanba Irawat, added the press note.
