Ukhrul, Noney, Tamenglong and Senapati mark 71st Wildlife Week
with District-level competitions and awareness campaigns

The Forest Divisions across the hill districts of the State, celebrated the 71st Wildlife Week 2025 with a series of district-level competitions and awareness drives designed to promote awareness on wildlife conservation.
UKHRUL
Marking the occasion, an Essay Writing and Painting Competition was held on September 19 at the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
Organised under the theme "Human-Animal Coexistence", the event sought to foster environmental awareness, creativity and a deeper understanding of the need for harmonious living with wildlife.
The winners from various categories were felicitated today by the Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul, who presented certificates and cash awards in the presence of teachers, guardians, and forest officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Laishram Gita, Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul, highlighted the significance of Wildlife Week as a platform to inspire the younger generation towards conservation.
She further stressed that sensitizing children on living with wildlife is crucial for sustainable coexistence and protection of biodiversity in the region.
While appreciating the participation of schools, teachers and students, she announced that the winning entries from Ukhrul district have been forwarded to the office of the Chief Wildlife Warden, Manipur, for consideration at the State-Level Competitions.
She further stated that as part of the continued celebrations, a Wildlife Quiz Competition will be organised on October 4,2025, at Paorei, Shirui, marking the occasion.
NONEY
In Noney, as part of the 71 st Wildlife Week, 2025, the Divisional Forest Office (DFO), Noney Forest Division, organized a spot painting and essay writing competition today under the theme "Living with Wildlife".
The competitions were held at the Divisional Level in two categories - Category I (Classes 6-8) and Category II (Classes (9-12).Ten prominent schools from Noney district participated in the programme, conducted at two centres: Don Bosco Khoupum, and Tengkongkang Hr Sec School, Longmai Noney.
Speaking on the occasion, D John Sha, DFO/Noney stressed the importance of understanding both intrinsic and extrinsic value of wildlife and its deep relation to human existence.
He highlighted the role of youth and students as the driving force in the conservation and protection of wildlife in particular, and the environment in general.
The results of the competitions were also declared, with prizes awarded to winners from both categories.
TAMENGLONG
A painting and essay writing competition was also organised today at Tamenglong, as part of the nationwide observance of the 71st Wildlife Week, 2025.The competitions held under the theme "Living With Wildlife", were held at the Multipurpose Hall, Tamenglong Headquarters, and at Liangnah School, Tamei Headquarters.
Students from various schools across Tamenglong and Tamei enthusiastically participated in the competitions.
The program was conducted by Range Forest Officer Tamenglong, Joel Gangmei, along with staff of the Tamenglong Forest Division.
Prizes for the winners will be distributed at Tamenglong Headquarters on October 2, 2025.Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted that the event aimed to raise awareness on the importance of conserving India's flora and fauna, while also encouraging the protection of wildlife and their habitats.
Altogether 209 students from Tamenglong and Tamei participated in the competition.
SENAPATI
In a bid to raise awareness on the urgent need for wildlife conservation, the Senapati Forest has rolled out a loudspeaker campaign across the district.
The initiative coincides with the upcoming Wildlife Week celebrations in the first week of October and aims to educate the public on the importance of coexisting wdth wildlife.
According to officials, the campaign is being broadcast in five major dialects of the district - Mao, Maram, Poumai, Liangmai, and Zeme, in addition to Manipuri language to ensure widespread reach.
The Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati, officially launched the programme on September 17 at Liyai Khunou.
It will run until October 8, covering the paddy harvesting season, a time when wildlife crimes tend to rise significantly.
