DDMA Senapati issues public advisory on river bank safety amid rising water levels

Senapati, June 25 2025:
In view of the incessant rainfall and rising water levels in rivers and hill streams across the district and in wake of the recent drowning incident in the Barak river, the Deputy Commissioner/Chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority of Senapati, Mamoni Doley has issued a public advisory urging residents to exercise extreme caution and stay alert for all possible breaches of the river banks and overflow of water to surrounding areas.
The DDMA chairperson has outline several precautionary measures to the general public including - avoiding driving or walking through flowing water, not to swim or cross a flooded river or stream or any flowing water body, to stay away from floodwaters that may carry sewage, chemicals, or other hazards, not to touch or go near any submerged transformers, inverters or electrical posts or wires, to stay informed through local news and emergency alerts, to follow instructions from local authorities and emergency responders, to follow evacuation orders from authorities, to postpone outdoor activities including farming and fishing until situation improves, to avoid unnecessary travel to inundated areas, to switch off electrical appliances if water enters one's home.
Children and the elderly have been specifically advised to remain in safe locations and the public are also requested to be vigilant and inform any Government authorities for immediate intervention in case of any emergency.
