Kangpokpi, September 24 2014:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has strongly condemned the statement of one self-styled BM Yaima while addressing a meeting at Tera Keithel as president of UPF under the aegis of JCILPS.
His statement is contradictory and misleading, asserted Emboi Serto, President ATSUM while referring to BM Yaima statement in para 8 of The Sangai Express(English Edition) front page of September 17 issue which reads "Now, non-local people when clubbed together constitute the largest community of Manipur" which clearly stated that the tribals are non locals.
The ATSUM supremo continued that in another statement, BM Yaima has said that the population of Meiteis compared to non-locals are lesser by 47,334 and when non-locals are clubbed together, they form the largest community in Manipur.
ATSUM president further continued that regarding the news item which appeared in another paper on page 3 of September 17 issue, ATSUM is confused and also regretted that the state government is obstructing an Act of Parliament.
First it was the Manipur University authority which tried not to implement the Central Educational Institution (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012.Second it was the students belonging to SC & OBC and now it is the State government which does not want the STs to enjoy 31% reservation in posts in Manipur University, pointed out Emboi.
It may be recalled that the High Court of Manipur vide PIL NO.18 of 2014 with W.P.(C) NO.644 of 2014 has passed its judgment and has directed the MU authority to follow the Amendment Act from 2014 15 academic session onward added the ATSUM supremo.
