Various Departments join observation of 'Quami Ekta Week'
Social Welfare Minister urges people to set aside differences to promote integrity and unity

Imphal, November 23 2020:
The Minister for Social Welfare Henry Okram said that people must forgive each other's mistakes to bring integrity and unity in the State.
The Minister made the statement at the Quami Ekta Diwas held at Government Dance College, Palace Compound, Imphal today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Henry Okram said, "We must stop all forms of discrimination and keep aside our differences to promote unity in the State.
Any issues or differences can be settled through dialogue, he added.
He mentioned that Quami Ekta Diwas shares the message of unity in the diversity and goodwill among sections of the society".
Stating that various schemes have been initiated under the present BJP led government, the Minister said that the Government is working tirelessly for the upliftment and welfare of the people at the grassroots level.
He appealed to the people to extend their love and support to the Government in bringing peace, tranquillity and unity in the State.
Henry Okram said that under the present regime, there is a stronger sense of emotional integration among hills and valley of the State.
On the occasion, Henry Okram announced that the Government will launch a skill development training program for differently abled persons soon.
During the function, students of BB Paul Mental Development Home, Ideal Blind School, Home for the Blind and Government Dance College presented songs and cultural dances.
Commissioner (Art and Culture) M Joy Singh, Director (Social Welfare and Art and Culture) Ng Uttam, officials of Art and Culture and Social Welfare and others attended the function.
The program was jointly organised by Department of Social Welfare and Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.
The Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills, Department for the Welfare of OBCs & SCs and Department of Minority Affairs, Government of Manipur also observed the week at the conference hall of Tribals Affairs & Hills today.
In his address, Director of Tribal Affairs & Hills C Arthur Worchuiyo highlighted schemes implemented by Tribal Affairs & Hills, Manipur.
He stated that under State plan, various schemes like Rural Shelter/Housing, distribution of sewing machines, distribution of water storage tank, financial assistance, to Self Help Group (SHG)/ women societies and materials were implemented.
Further, with grant under article 275 (1), Community/Culture Halls, IVR/MI Dams/Retaining Walls/Culverts, EMRS, Boys & Girls Hostels, Markets, Suspension Bridges and Mini Stadiums at District Headquarters were constructed, he said.
60 percent of the above mentioned family Oriented Schemes are devolved to 6 ADCs, he added.
The Director further said that Special Central Assistance (SCA) was also given to tribal beneficiaries.
CMO, Tribal Affairs & Hills, Dr Vumkhoneh also highlighted welfare schemes implemented under Medical and Public Health Tribal Affairs and Hills.
He mentioned that financial assistance for medical treatment for ST patients was given to ST, BPL patients after recommendation made by the Medical Board of TA & H.Mortuary Van Service for transportation of dead body to their respective villages, free ambulance with driver were also provided.
Material aids like wheel chair, walking stick, crutches, commode chairs, hearing aids are also freely distributed to the to differently-abled ST beneficiaries, he said.
Health awareness camps are conducted by medical section of TA&H with the assistance of medical teams of the ADC concerned, health awareness talks and medicines are freely dispensed in the camps, he said.
Skill development training of ST students in Paramedical courses were conducted and 60 students of the first batch have completed their training at Shija Hospital and most of them got placement in different health centres and the 2nd and 3rd batches of over 200 students are undergoing training, he said.
PHCs under TA&H are functioning at most remote villages where the line department is yet to open their centres.
At present such health centres are operating at Impa of Tamenlong, Chamu of Ukhrul, Thingpuikuol of Churachandpur and Molcham of Chandel (under process).
A doctor and other paramedical staff are providing 24x7 health care services to the village and its surrounding villages, he said.
Director, Department of Welfare for the OBCs & SCs Ng Bhogendra, MCS also highlighted various schemes taken up by the department.
Deputy Director, Department of Welfare for the OBCs & SCs, Officers and staff of the Departments were present during the function.
The Quami Ekta Week is observed all over India to mark the birth anniversary of the first women Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.
The day is celebrated to enhance the love and unity among people all across India.
The week is observed every year with the main theme "Secularism, Anti-Terrorism and Nonviolence" .
As part of the function, COVID-19 pledge was also administered by C Arthur Worchuiyo.
