Thoubal rallies against arrest of village volunteers, PR imposition

Thoubal, February 23 2025:
Womenfolk of Thoubal district on Sunday held a torch (meira) rally at different locations of Thoubal district denouncing the arrest of village volunteers by security forces and imposition of President's Rule in the State.
Organised by the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, womenfolk of Leishangthem, Sabaltongba, Ningombam, Athokpam, Charangpat, Kshetri Leikai, Phoudel Keiranbi, Khangabok and proper Thoubal gather at Thoubal Melaground Lamkhai with torch (meira) on their hand and shouted slogans against the arrest of village volunteers and imposition of the President's Rule in the State.
The protesters also demanded for immediate formation of the new Government.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, AK Sumita, called for cessation of the security forces operation of arresting village volunteers and demanded for immediate withdrawal of the President's Rule.
She stated that if the demands of the Meira Paibis are not fulfilled, it will continue various forms of agitation.
Meanwhile, Meira Paibis of Phanjakhong, Chandrakhong, Ningel, Leirongthel, Malom and Kakmayai on Saturday evening came out in large number and staged torch rally along Yairipok-Kasom road against the arrest and detention of village volunteers by security forces.
After the rally, the protesters gathered at Mayai Keithel Lamdaibung and raised slogans against the arrest of village volunteers, imposition of PR and called for formation of a new Government in the State.
The womenfolk asserted that the security forces must stop arresting village volunteers immediately.
