Meira Paibis protest gun attack on teacher's house

Imphal, September 22 2026: Meira Paibis of Sawombung Thongkhong staged a sit-in protest today condemning the gun attack on the residence of Sagolsem Shyam, a teacher of Biramangol College, Sawombung.

The attack was carried out by unidentified armed miscreants who fired at the gate of his house at Sawombung Thongkhong around 7 pm on September 19 .

Speaking at the sit-in held at Thongkhong Keithel Sang, Meira Paibi secretary Wahengbam Khambiton strongly condemned the incident.

Such acts create fear among people already reeling under the prevailing situation in the State and should not be repeated, she said.

If there are any grievances regarding the teacher's work, they should be discussed and resolved amicably, she added.

Stating that the locality is a peaceful area, she said people are now afraid to even come out of their homes after hearing gunshots.

Placards reading "We want peace", "We condemn firing at residential areas" and "Resolve all problems through dialogue" were displayed at the protest.
