Imphal, September 22 2010: Tele education programme launched on trial basis at TG Higher Secondary School has started paying dividends in the form enhancing knowledge of students.

The tele education programme was launched by Education Department in collaboration with NIC with the objective of enabling students of the State compete at national level.

The same programme was launched for the first time at TG Higher Secondary School on trial basis on August 30 by Education Minister L Jayantakumar.

So far, the programme has succeeded in enabling students acquire extra knowledge in such subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

Lectures given on different topics by subject experts of Delhi based Savant Education Group are now accessible to students of TG Hr Sec School through internet.

Moreover, the students are given the opportunity to raise questions and clarify their doubts.

Added to normal teachings by teachers of the school, the tele education programme has considerably expanded knowledge sources available to the students.

It is said that students need not go to reputed but expensive coaching centres to earn extra knowledge when tele education facility is available to them.

At present, students of TG Hr Sec School can interact with and learn from subject experts based outside the State between 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm.

One student of the school said that the programme inspired them to work harder.

She said that she need go to expensive coaching centres and waste money and time any more as her craving for extra knowledge in addition to the lessons taught by school teachers can be fulfilled through tele education.

However, the students of the school are facing some difficulties as more than 200 science students are crammed in a small room where tele-education facility is installed.

As there is only eight pairs of desks and benches, only 30 students can be accommodated at a time.

Another student said that they could grasp well the teachings of the subject experts as it was done in a very explicit manner using animation.

"Yet, there were times when correspondence was disrupted due to poor network connectivity or other technical reasons", she said.

She added that Science students would like installation of the tele education facility in a spacious hall using a large screen.

To reap full benefits of the programme, a co-ordinator has been appointed.

At times, when there is low audibility or confusion over the accents of subject experts, the co-ordinator made explanations to students.
