Thoubal, August 22 2024:
With the commencement of landslide debris removal from Lousi Canal at Chingkakpham (Chingkakpi), the overflowing water is reportedly beginning to drain out towards Kharungpat.
The canal was blocked on August 19 owing to a landslide at Tekcham Maning Ching.
It is worth noting that many including Ningsing Lup Tekcham, Tekcham GP members, United Clubs Organisation (UCO) Kakching along with farmers of Lousi Loukol have made great efforts to clear out landslide rubble from the canal since August 20 .
Due to the difficult terrain, they were unable to access the landslide site and thus worked on forging a pathway by clearing out a portion of the hillside.
Today the hardworking team was able to reach the area where the landslide occurred and began clearing out the debris.
With this, the rising water of the canal has started to flow out towards Kharungpat.
However, as the excess water has not completely been drained yet, it has revealed the necessity to dig out the water-bed, which will take another few days.
As this endeavour will require some financial assistance, people of the area have urged the State Government to provide the necessary aid.
Meanwhile, Thoubal DC Ahanthem Subhash visited the flood-affected sites of Chingkakpham today.
He handed over 1000 litres of diesel to be used by the Poclain earth movers.
Assuring the people of further help in consultation with District Administration Kakching, the DC hailed the local people for taking up immediate measures to resolve the issue.
