Imphal, January 22 2026:
A group of families of Meitei police personnel has urged the Government to avoid transferring or posting Meitei police personnel or officers to Tamenglong until normalcy is restored in Manipur.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club today, Khundongbam Sumati, a woman from Thoubal Kiyam Siphai whose son serves as a Police Constable, stated that many Meitei police personnel posted in Tamenglong have been working in valley districts after getting attached to police stations in districts such as Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur since the onset of the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
She said that the Government, however, has issued the release order for 41 Meitei police personnel attached to police stations in valley districts (six in Imphal East, 22 in Thoubal, five in Kakching, two in Bishnupur and and six in Imphal West), directing them to return to their posts and outposts in Tamenglong.
Questioning whether the Government would take responsibility if anything harmful were to happen to them, she stated that Meitei families will be unable to send their sons or husbands on official duty to the hill districts until normalcy is restored in Manipur and free movement is allowed across the State.
Sumati urged the Government to withdraw the release order for the 41 Meitei police personnel.
Additionally, she appealed to the Government to refrain from posting Kuki police personnel in the valley districts.
