In connection with the joint statement issued by KLO, MPLF, TPDF and ULFA on January 20, 2008, MPLF has reiterated its appeal to the people to boycott the Republic Day celebration of India and support the general strike being called from 1 am to 6 pm of January 26.In a statement, the MPLF convenor appealed to the people not to ply any vehicles on the road, stay away from organising any sort of entertainment programme including cinema halls and shut down the shutters of all the shops during the general strike.
However, there would not be any restriction on media, medical, electricity and water supply during the general strike, the statement added.
The underground outfits of the North East notably ULFA, MPLF comprising of the RPF, PREPAK and UNLF have been boycotting Republic Day and imposing a general strike on this day for the last many years.
