5th anniversary of MRC observed

The Directorate of Forest, Environment & Climate Change observed the 5th Anniversary of the Media Resource Centre (MRC) at Hotel Imphal today.
It was attended by Th Biswajit Singh, Minister, Forest, Environment and Climate Change; Arun Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur; Irengbam Arun, advisor, MRC; Pradip Phanjoubam, expert member, MRC; Khogendra Khomdram, expert member, MRC; Salam Rajesh, expert member, MRC; Neeta Arambam, Joint Director, DoE & CC; Ph Vivekananda Sharma, Joint Director, DoE & CC; and Dr T Brajakumar, Director DoE & CC as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Biswajit said, "One needs to convince and make people understand the complications of climate change and how and what we should do in tackling issues related to it" .
He asserted that there is always a solution for every problem, so one should adopt the habit of sustainable preservation and inherit methods or means accordingly.
"It is undeniable that destruction is already done for every human civilization but we should also learn its reversing process", he added.
Th Biswajit also stressed on the need to encourage positive ideas and new approaches from every sphere of life to bring changes in the environment.
Recalling the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign", the Minister emphasised the importance of each tree, its contribution towards mankind and the need of preserving such useful natural gifts.
"In the forest, we have reserved, protected and unclassed forests.
The term 'reserved forest' is used because it has an ample number of rich resources which we all should be aware of, he added.
"Establishing platforms like MRC helps to.
bridge the gaps between the policy makers, researchers, general practitioners and public.
It has been giving capacity building to almost 50 journalists so far in the State.
The department, through MRC, is presently sponsoring radio plays, programmes and other educational related awareness and initiatives through media", said Th Biswajit.
Highlighting the need to organise climate change conclaves every year.
Th Biswajit said that it should be an open forum involving all media fraternity.
"MRC of the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change was initiated in 2018-2019 with the primary objective to spread awareness of issues revolving around climate change particularly focusing on Manipur", he added.
Felicitation of climate change media partners, both from print and electronic media was the main highlight of the function.
A short video on the activities of MRC was also shown at the function.
