Hearing Assessment Camp conducted

A Hearing Assessment Camp for Persons with Hearing Difficulties under the Unique Disability ID (UDID) Programme was conducted today at the campus of Spastic Society of Manipur (SSM) in Tapokpi Bazar, Canchipur.
The camp was organised by SSM in association with the CMO- Imphal East & Imphal West, Department of Health Services and Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur.
During the camp, ENT Doctors and trained Audiologists who are empanelled in the UDID conducted thorough assessment to determine the specific hearing needs of each participants.
The Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Speech & Hearing Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India will distribute specific hearing aid for each participants during the Free Hearing Aid Distribution Camp scheduled to be held on November 15, 2024.During the hearing assessment camp, Karam Shyam, MLA, Langthabal AC; N Khoibi Singh, Director, CRC, Imphal and Laishram Tokendra Ricky, Secretary, SSM, handed over a Motorised Tricycle to Moirangthem Miranda Chanu from Sugnu, a student with Locomotor Disability.
Miranda is a Scholar of the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme.
She is presently pursuing her Masters in Political Science in Manipur University.
Speaking on the occasion, Karam Shyam commended SSM for empowering Persons with Disabilities in a very progressive and Right based manner.
"We need to support Persons with Disabilities in whatever way we can as part of our social responsibility.
We should help empower PwDs to be contributing members of the society rather than a liability", he added.
Laishram Ricky said that UDID is a Unique Disability Certificate & Identity Card, issued pan India like the Aadhaar card by the Government of India.
"From June 2019, the earlier Disability Certificate issued by the respective State Government will be replaced by the UDID and many PwDs are not aware of it", he added.
Around 170 persons with hearing impairment, officials & staff from the Departments of Health Services and Social Welfare participated in the camp.
