Imphal, August 21 2024:
The United Women Rights Defenders has appealed to the State Government to frame a policy programme for the safety of women especially widows, women living with HIV and those staying in relief camps.
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, United Women Rights Defenders member Ningthoujam Parvati informed that the United Women Rights Defenders is a conglomerate of all the displaced women staying in relief camps, women living with HIV and the Conflict Widow Forum.
She said that the recent rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College has shocked the conscience of the Nation.
She also expressed deep anguish and frustration over the failure of the authorities to find the whereabouts of Linthoingambi Hijam who went missing on July 6 last year.
Criticising the authorities concerned for their handling of the investigation, she urged the authorities concerned to expedite the investigation and provide definitive clues about the case at the earliest.
Further, Parvati appealed to the Centre and the State Government to take necessary steps to frame a policy programme with a focus on addressing issues confronting women and enabling their growth.
