Lamka, January 20:
The Manipur Hills Journalist Union today issued a notice asking a key person of the Medicine Sans Frontier (MSF) to tender unconditional apology to the union for impeding the media and also for blowing things out by giving false report to various organizations and even some non-state actors.
A statement of the union issued after an emergency meeting said, the union is shocked and stunned at the arrogant attitude and uncompromising treatment meted out to the media thereby objecting them to capture the heartrending moments of the victims of Sehken mishap on their arrival at the district hospital.
The act of a key functionary of the MSF, a foreign NGO, is tantamount to suppression of the freedom of the press as guaranteed by the constitution, it said adding, the MSF is not empowered to hinder the media.
Even as the union acknowledged the invaluable services rendered to the public of Manipur by MSF, it said it can not and could not remain silent about the issue blown out of proportion by functionaries of the MSF by giving false report to various organizations and even some non-state actors.
'The situation being such, the MHJU hereby give notice to the concerned key person of the MSF to tender unconditional apology to the MHJU within 5 days failing which the MHJU will have no other means, but to resort to taking drastic steps' it cautioned.
It is worth mentioning that some functionaries of the NGO were also engaged in photographing the patients when they stopped the media from doing the same.
