With the aim to increase productivity and enhanced the livelihood of the farmers of Bishnupur district whose paddy fields remain uncultivated due to outbreak of ethnic violence in the State, the five farmers' organisation, AMPFA, KAPFA, LOUSAL, LALLUP and LOYALUP distributed high yielding variety seeds and urea to the farmers at subsidized rate.
The distribution event held at Moirang Kumam Leikai Mandop was attended by LALLUP president, AB Elangbam, Regional Centre, ICAR Manipur Centre Lamphelpat, head Dr Ch Bashudha Devi along with leaders from different organisations and farmers of the district.
Speaking at the event, LALLUP president AB Elangbam said that to provide some relief to the farmers of the district who are affected by the ongoing crisis in the State, the farmers' organisation of the State after due consultation and discussion with ICAR and other concerned organisations had taken the initiatives to distribute the high yielding variety crop seeds and urea to the farmers at a subsidized rate.
He stated that among the many problems faced by the farmers of Bishnupur district, the inability to cultivate the agricultural lands that are located at high canals and periphery areas due to frequent firing from Kuki militants has hampered the agricultural activities and has deeply impacted the lives of many farmers.
"To cope from such a situation and other unwanted issues, the farmers' community and authorities must unite and work together, to ensure more increase in agricultural productivity," said AB Elangbam.
He also appealed to the farmers to give more attention to organic farming instead of relying on chemical fertilisers, for a better and healthier society.
