Awareness prog on NHB schemes held

National Horticulture Board, Guwahati in association with Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, Manipur held a one-day State level awareness programme on National Horticulture Board (NHB) schemes at State Guest House conference hall, Sanjenthong today.
The awareness programme was presided by NC Mistry, Additional Managing Director, NHB, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, K Kipgen, Additional Director, H&Sc, Government of Manipur and N Sanatomba Singh, Under Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Officer, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur Kh Upendra Singh detailed the meaning of Horticulture Mission.
The Mission, he added is a programme undertaken by NHB across North India.
There are various programmes that can be taken up under the mission, Upendra informed.
However, the North Eastern States, particularly Manipur, are less aware about the programme.
There are various incentive schemes which could be taken up under the mission like, mass plantation of flowers and trees, cold storage upgradation etc, the Agriculture Officer informed.
Deputy Director of National Horticulture Board, Guwahati RK Singh spoke on the role of NHB in commercial horticulture development and role of nursery accreditation during the technical session of the awareness programme held here today while Under Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, N Sanatomba Singh and ICAR, Manipur centre horticulture scientist SS Roy spoke on 'activities of department of agriculture and cooperation' and 'basic principles of cultivation' .
SMS, KVK, Andro, Dr M Dinachandra Singh and PC KVK, Thoubal Dr M Thoithoi also spoke on the 'prospect of horticulture in the State of Manipur' and 'plant protection measures of important horticultural crops of Manipur' .
