KNO, UPF settle CCpur killing case

Two armed conglomerates under SoO agreement, KNO and UPF today reportedly oversaw a settlement on the weekend violence, where some members of two armed groups turned hostile at Thingchom village about 6 kms from here, that left one dead and two others injured.
The violence, sources said began when three cadres of KNF(Z) tried to locate a lost mobile handset at the village.
The three were suspected to be captured by some HPC(D) cadres in the process leading to the dead of one, who succumbed at the District Hospital here not long after the incident.
He has been identified as Jangkholun Haokip (31) .
Two of his partners who were injured are identified as Mangchungnung Singson (27) and Khailun Haokip (23) .
With the case assuming an ugly possibility of turning communal, the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur and Hmar Inpui began to mediate the case and talks were held until late yesterday.
As the two bodies failed to arrive at a settlement allegedly on some undisclosed grounds, the KNO and the UPF have taken up the matter today and oversaw that a settlement was arrived by the two bodies.
Some people have even blocked the Tedim Road yesterday for a brief period over the issue, but were later dissuaded.
As per the settlement arrived at today, Rs 2 lakhs will be paid as compensation to the bereaved family besides 1 traditional gong for resting the head of the dead, and fulfilling other traditionally necessary rituals, according to a source within the parties involved in the settlement.
